Student Visa & Tier 4
(Child) Student Visa Applications:
If you are a non-UK, non-EEA national, over the age of 18 years,
looking to come to the UK to study fo a period of 6 months or more,
or if you have a child under the age of 17, whom you wish to complete
a course of study in the UK for 6 months of more, you will need to
apply respectively for either the Tier 4 (General) Student visa or the
Tier 4 (Child) Student Visa. Note, students aged 16-17 years may
apply to study in the UK, either under the Tier 4 (General) Student Visa
or Tier 4 (Child) Student Visa categories, if studying a course at or
aboveLevel 3 of The National Qualifications Framework.
Both visas will allow you to come and remain in the UK for the full
length of your course, and some time after the course has finished,
and will also permit you to bring a partner, children, a parent or
guardian with you (if a child) to the UK, during your course of studies.
You will also be required to fulfil the criteria of the Points Based
System eligibility.
Further Eligibility Requirements - Tier 4 (General) Student Visa:
You will be required as the applicant to fulfil the criteria of the Points
Based System Eligibility.
You must also meet the following criteria:
• You must have an offer from a UK registered University, school, or educational institution.
• You must be able to speak, read, write and understand English.
• You must satisfy the financial requirement, having enough to
support and pay for your course.
Further Eligibility Requirements - The Tier 4
(Child) Student Visa:
To apply, the applicant must fulfil the criteria of the Points Based
System Eligibility.
They must also meet the following criteria:
• The child must be between the ages of 4-17 years old and intend to
study in the UK for at least 6 months.
• They must have been offered an unconditional offer to study on a
course with a licensed sponsor.
• They must be able to satisfy the maintenance requirement, having
enough money to support themselves (or be supported) without
recourse to public funds and must pay for the whole course. The
amount required will vary depending on the care arrangements and circumstances of the child.
• They must have written consent from parents or legal guardians
confirming that the child can travel to and live independently in the UK
• Children aged 4-15 must be educated at an independent fee-paying
school.
• Children aged between 16-17 years old may study at a public
funded further education institution or college, provided they are a
fee-paying student, and the institution is able to charge fees for
international students.
